Yesterday afternoon I was in Bologna for the pro-European demonstration called by the mayor of Florence Sara Funaro and the mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore.
In the setting of Piazza Nettuno there was a moment that particularly moved me that I would like to share with the readers of Pensalibero. The famous musician Paolo Fresu arrived directly in Bologna from Kiev where in the last few days he held a master class and performed a concert.
After recounting frequent air raid warnings and his experience in the capital’s shelters during Russian drone and missile attacks
Paolo Fresu played the Ukrainian anthem, a very solemn moment that was applauded by all the participants in the demonstration for Europe.
The musician also wanted to thank the Italian Ambassador to Ukraine Carlo Formosa for his expertise and determination.
The empathy between Paolo Fresu and the Bologna square offered a clear and very effective message so that Italy’s active solidarity with the Ukrainian people, militarily attacked for more than 3 years by the Kremlin, continues and intensifies.

This is a message that sweeps away the ambivalences that persist in Italian politics, especially on the part of Giuseppe Conte and Matteo Salvini, but also in the left wing of the PD and in some segments of FdI.
The hope is that the Europeanist and federalist commitment is not episodic and that the construction of the United States of Europe unites the many souls – today absurdly fragmented – of Italian reformism.
