This volume analyses the relationship between Pavese and America, which so far has been more hinted at than investigated systematically. From the birth of the American myth in the ’30s until the postwar disillusion, a complex play of references, hints and linguistic echoes ties Pavese’s critical contributions on American literature to his creative work, in the spirit of the «splendid monotony» he theorized in a late paper on poetics.
